From 10 to 12 April 2011, the 9th International Conference on Clean Technologies for the Mining Industry -- CLEANMINING 2011 took place at the Sheraton Santiago Hotel & Convention Center in Santiago, Chile. The conference was organised by the Metallurgical Engineering Department of Universidad de Concepción, Chile in collaboration with Gecamin.
The technical programme of the conference included authors from 19 countries whose 51 presentations addressed issues of utmost relevance to the sustainable future of the global mining industry. The oral presentations were well-complemented by a poster session that included projects from both students and the industry. The technical presentations were preceded by five plenary presentations given by distinguished Latin American leaders in the mining industry: Pedro Reyes of Anglo American, Chile; Doris Hiam-Galvez from Hatch, Peru; Juan Carlos Salas from Antofagasta Minerals, Chile; Maurício L. Torem from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Juan Martínez from Cia. Siderúrgica Huachipato, Chile.
